As we all know, to learn English well, vocabulary is the key. But when we learn English, it is likely that we will miss some new words which we may have difficulty in understanding, right? Don't worry. Here are two tips for study. First, it will be a good idea to refer to a dictionary because a dictionary is a great help. By doing this, we can learn a lot from it, such as the spelling of the word, its explanation, as well as the part of speech. Second, we could apply the knowledge of word formation that we learned in Unit 2. Take “encouragement” for example. “Encourage” is a verb that we have learned before. By adding a suffix, here comes its noun form “encouragement”. If you take this advice, it can make your English learning much easier. Next, it's your turn to create your own recipe for the friendship soup. Work in pairs, try to come up with more words to enrich your recipe. You may have two minutes to get prepared to make your friendship soup recipe delicious and nutritious.
生:There are many choices to consider, like energy, bravery, diligence, responsibility, dedication, optimism, ability, ambition, creativity, carefulness, confidence and sincerity.
师:Although different people have different standards for friends and friendship, those are the good qualities we should value and pursue. Actually, friends have a lot more for us to explore.
Please read the short passage on page 43. You will have one minute to do so. What impresses you most after reading it?
生:The word “Friend” comes from the Old English “freon”, meaning the loved one. Good friends are ones who are often genetically similar. They can share up to 1% of the same genes.
师:So cherish your friends because they are like your family members. If one day your friend is in trouble, what will you do?
生:You will surely give him or her a helping hand.
