师:Good morning, everyone. I'm Miss John. Today we'll have a new lesson, “Memories of Christmas”. By the end of the class, I hope you'll be able to use collocations to express Christmas activities, briefly obtain the rider's memories of Christmas activities, and, following the timeline, retell the rider's memories. We'll also understand the common meaning of festivals and describe your own memories of a festival with someone.
My dear students, have you ever heard the song “Jingle Bells”? Do you know how to sing it? Let's try together.
(师生共唱)Jingle bells. Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one - horse open sleigh. Jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one - horse open sleigh.
When do people in the west usually sing this song?
生:Christmas.
师:What do people in the west do to celebrate Christmas? I'll give you an example. As you can see, it's a Christmas tree. We can say “put up a Christmas tree” and you can put it into a whole sentence. “They celebrate Christmas by putting up a Christmas tree.” Now it's your turn. You can make sentences with the help of the pictures. You can say “they celebrate Christmas by hanging stockings, giving gifts, making Christmas pudding and having a big meal.” Can you make more sentences now?
Please take out your book and turn to page 58. As you can see, there are some pictures. According to the title and pictures, can you predict what the story mainly talks about?
生:Maybe it is the little girl's memories of the Christmas that she spent with her granny together.
师:Read the story quickly, then check your prediction and answer the question below. Why was it such a memorable Christmas to the writer? Let's check the answer. First, let's check the prediction. What we predicted was right. It is the rider's memories of the Christmas that she spent with her granny together. And it was a memorable Christmas to the writer because it was the last Christmas the rider spent with her granny before her granny passed away.
Read the first line of each paragraph and circle specific dates or time words. For example, “November”. Let's check the answer in paragraph 1. We can see “November”, “the impact of 3” (should this be something else? It seems odd here), “December”, “Christmas Eve”, “Christmas morning” and “a few weeks after that, Christmas”. So we know the writer described her memories in time order: November, December, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. And the last paragraph goes back to the reality. As you can see, here is the timeline and here are Christmas activities. When did these activities happen? Read the story carefully and complete the timeline.

师:Now let's check the answer together. In November, Granny moved in and they wrote a letter to Father Christmas. In December, they made sugar biscuits and sang Christmas songs. On Christmas Eve, they left sugar biscuits out for Father Christmas and put a stocking at the end of the bed. On Christmas Day, the writer opened the presents and they had Christmas lunch.
What were the rider's feelings towards Christmas Day as it was getting closer and closer? Please read paragraphs 1, 2, 3 to find out the detailed descriptions. Do you find the descriptions?

师:Let's check together. In November, “I was too excited that Christmas was on the way.” In December, “our excitement grew each day”. From these detailed descriptions, we can see vivid pictures of a girl eagerly waiting for Christmas Day. The rider's feelings towards Christmas Day grew day by day. How about Grammy's health? Did it improve day by day as well? Read the story again. Find the hints in the story that suggest Granny was in poor health condition according to the timeline. This time, you have three minutes.
