In order to understand the current situation of environmental behaviors in China, since 2019, city officials have been organizing a survey on environmental behaviors among the public and issuing a survey report each year. So, what should be included in these survey reports?
生:It may include the introduction to the topic and the results of findings.
师:Good.
生:Detailed data and graphs may be used to present the results.
师:Anything else?
生:Conclusion.
师:Maybe. Now, bearing these predictions in mind, please turn to page 40. There's a survey report on the actions taken by city residents to help protect the environment. You have 2 minutes to read it and check your predictions. Time's up. We can see the introduction, findings, data, graphs, and conclusion are all included. Good job. Can you label each paragraph with these headings? I believe it's not difficult for you. Let's check the answers together.
Paragraph 1 is an introduction. Paragraphs 2 present the findings or results. Data and graphs are included. And the last paragraph concludes the whole report. Now, let's come to paragraph 1. What basic information can you find in this paragraph? Let's read it together.
生:Last August refers to time.
师:Who organized this survey?
生:City officials.
师:An interviewed means the method to do a survey. And participants are about 500 residents. Can you give me a more accurate answer?
生:496 city residents.
师:How do you know?
生:I noticed the note. And the participants were 15 years of age and older. Besides, it tells us the site was at Summer Fun Festival, and most importantly, it tells us the purpose: to find out people's attitudes and actions.
师:Now we've known the basic information of this survey report. Let's see the results. Read paragraphs 2 to 3 and try to answer these three questions on the screen. You have three minutes. Have you got it? Let's have a check.
Question 1: In order to find out people's attitudes and actions, what questions are asked?
生:The two questions may be: Is it necessary to help protect the environment? And what actions have you done to help protect the environment?
师:Do you agree or not?
生:No.
师:Why?
生:In the second paragraph, it's noted that more than half of those who took part in the survey had done four of the five activities in the past month. So the second question can be improved to make it more precise.
师:Question 2: What are the findings about people's attitudes and actions?
生:We can easily find two graphs presenting findings. The first one is a pie chart, which shows people's attitude. Most people admitted the importance of environmental protection. And the second one is a bar chart, which shows a wide range of activities people had done. We can see some actions were usually done by people, such as recycling waste, cycling or walking, cutting back on the use of disposable packaging, while people paid less attention to saving water and energy.
师:Question 3: How does the author present these findings?
生:From the text, we can see that the author used proper graphs, described major findings, and provided some supporting figures. These figures aren't presented randomly but one by one. Actually, these figures are presented in different paragraphs. For example, 4, 96, 70, 74, and 88 appear in paragraph 2.
师:Are there any others in paragraph 3? Why? Think about it.
生:Some students found that the data in paragraph 2 showed the positive findings, which people did well in, while the figures in paragraph 3 showed the negative findings.
师:Let's come to the conclusion part. What's included in this part?
