师:Hello, everyone. Welcome to my class. I'm Lin Ye from Huannan No. 1 Senior High School. Today we're going to learn Lesson 3, “The Secrets of Your Memory”. By the end of this class, you should be able to: First, discover and understand the secrets of memory. Second, provide advice on memory problems based on what you've learned. Third, understand the value of memory improvement. Are you ready to start? Let's begin with memory. We can remember different faces and names. What else can we remember? There are so many things, and with a good memory, activities like study and life become much easier. However, we also face some problems. Now, let's watch this short video and try to figure out what memory problem is mentioned in it.

师:Have you ever locked your car and then forgotten five minutes later whether you locked it or not? Why do we have trouble remembering such obvious things? Well, memories are divided into two categories: implicit and explicit. Implicit memories are things we remember unconsciously. For example, we often don't recall brushing our teeth or eating breakfast on most mornings because we do these activities without thinking. Explicit memories, on the other hand, are things we consciously remember. When you study for a test, the information is easier to recall because you're making a conscious effort to learn. So, what kind of things are hard to remember?
生:Things we do without thinking or things we remember unconsciously.
师:Exactly. In our daily life, we often have this kind of experience. For example, we might forget where we put our keys or a person's name. But this doesn't mean you have a bad memory, right? Do you have other memory - related problems? For instance, you might wonder why some classmates remember things better, or how you can improve your memory. Today, we're going to read a text. In this text, memory expert Jeremiah answers some of the most common questions about memory. Let's see if we can solve some of our problems today. First, take a quick look at the passage and tell me what questions are mentioned in this text.
生:There are four questions.
师:Right. What type of writing is this text?
生:It's an exposition.
师:Good. Exposition means it's explanatory. The author's purpose is to explain the answers to questions about how and why. Are any of your questions mentioned? Since many of them are, now let's dig deeper into the text. Try to find the topic sentences of each paragraph.

师:Now let's check the answers. Paragraph 1: We remember things that have strong connections, especially emotional connections. Paragraph 2: No one has proved that there are people who really have photographic memories. Paragraph 3: It's natural for many people to forget. And the last paragraph: Our memory reaches its full power at the age of 25. Can you summarize these basic facts about memory?
生:We can remember things with strong connections. Nobody has a photographic memory. Forgetting is natural. Our memory peaks at 25.
师:Great. Now let's look at them one by one. First, why can we remember certain memories? Read Paragraph 1 and find the answer.
生:Because when we experience things for the first time, we often have strong feelings, and childhood memories are connected with strong emotions.
